Carrying Concealed Weapon Course Offered
The Portage County Sheriff's Office is offering a Carrying Concealed Weapon class on Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 8 AM - 1 PM. The class will be held at the Law Enforcement Range located at the end of Willow Spring Drive in the Town of Dewey. The training will consist of a four-hour classroom presentation, written test, safe handling procedures, and a short live-fire shoot. The class will be taught by state certified Firearms Instructors with the Portage County Sheriff's Office, and the course instruction is the Wisconsin Department of Justice approved class. All participants are to bring a pistol and 50 rounds of ammunition. All weapons are to be unloaded and in a carrying case or holster.
The cost of the class is $25/person and will be collected at the range. The class is open to anyone over the age of 21.

Hunter Safety Course Offered
The Portage County Sheriff's Office is offering a Hunter Safety Course on June 18, 19, 20, 21 and 25, 2012, from 4 PM - 7 PM. There is also a field day scheduled on Saturday, June 23, 2012, from 8AM - 12 PM at the Dewey Shooting Range. The evening classes will be held at the Portage County Sheriff's Office located at 1500 Strongs Avenue in the City of Stevens Point.
The cost of the class is $10/person and anyone 12 years of age or older may attend.

Boater Safety Course Offered
The Portage County Sheriff's Office is offering a Boating Safety Course on May 29, 31, and June 4, 2012. Classes will run from 4 PM - 7 PM and will be held at the Sheriff's Office at 1500 Strongs Avenue in the City of Stevens Point.
The course cost is $10/person and is open to boat operators 10 years of age and older. All boat operators born on or after January 1, 1989, must take the boater safety class to operate.
